Sperm count<\/strong>, the amount of sperm with good motility, the ratio of normal sperm to abnormally shaped sperm are evaluated. In addition, the amount, color, pH, presence of leukocytes and liquefaction of the semen sample are evaluated.<\/p>\n

As a result of a sperm test, first the sperm motility and then the number and morphology are examined. In addition, the presence of leukocytes or round cells is also investigated.<\/p>\n

In addition to sperm, polygonal epithelial cells from the urethra, spermatogenetic germ cells and leukocytes can also be found in the ejaculate. All of these are generally called round or round cells.<\/p>\n

In the case of leukospermia, an infection of the genital system may occur. Leukocytospermia may also lead to a decrease in semen volume and deterioration in sperm motility and functions due to oxidative stress and\/or by releasing cytotoxic cytokines.<\/p>\n

There are different techniques for counting leukocytes in semen. The elastase concentration can be determined by ELISA or intracellular peroxidase and leukocyte-specific antigen determinations can be used. What is important here is the problem that counting leukocytes by direct microscopy may cause them to be confused with spermatids, spermatocytes and spermatogonia.<\/p>\n

In cases with low or zero sperm count, liquefied semen is first centrifuged at 600 x g for 10 minutes, excess seminal plasma is discarded, and the remaining constant volume of semen is thoroughly mixed and examined again. When calculating the result, the volume of excreted seminal plasma should also be taken into account. Sperm motility and morphology should also be re-examined in the sample after centrifugation.
