Can paternity test results be used as evidence in court?

Paternity test results performed in private genetic diagnosis centers are for informational purposes only. It is accepted as evidence in some Courts.

If the results of paternity, maternity or sibling tests are to be used in judicial authorities, there are certain conditions that must be met. For this; Independent witnesses such as prosecutors and doctors are suitable.

In other words, all samples for DNA analysis must be delivered to our laboratory under the supervision of witnesses. Witnesses must witness the collection and delivery of samples.


Is parental consent required for paternity test?

While performing the paternity test, the consent of the people to be analyzed must be obtained. If the person to be tested is under the age of 18, approval from the official mother or official father is required.


From whom should samples be taken for paternity testing?

Taking examples from father and child is sufficient.

Is the paternity test covered by SSI?

Who can learn the results of the paternity test

The results are carried out in the form of hand-delivered reports only to the testers within the framework of the confidentiality principle. Information is never shared with anyone else over the phone or by other means.


What is the reliability of the paternity test?

It works with DNA markers (on common gene regions) and gives 99.99% accurate results.


Which samples are used for the paternity test?

As ​​Istanbul Laboratories, blood samples are taken by our own technical staff in our center, only the oral mucosa is sampled from babies whose blood is difficult to collect.


Is both mother’s and father’s consent required for testing?

For the DNA test to be performed, the official consent of the mother or father is obtained by filling in the written consent forms given by our institution. Persons who want to take the test must bring their identity cards with them.
