How is the Paternity Test Done?

A blood sample is taken in our laboratory for DNA paternity test. Only the oral mucosa is sampled from infants and children whose blood is difficult to obtain. Sampling in infants and children is easily done by rubbing the swab stick against the cheek wall and touching the mucous tissue. You should come to Istanbul Laboratories and have the samples taken by our expert staff. For those who cannot come to our laboratory, our expert staff comes to the house for an additional fee and takes samples.

During the Paternity Test, the DNA regions that the father and the child should have in common are compared with each other. If the analyzed gene regions of the child and the father are the same, the father-to-be tested is the real father of the child. If the genetic information known to the child from the father does not match that of the tested father-to-be, the tested father is not the child’s real father.

Paternity testing consists of two stages: DNA fragments are analyzed using the same electrophoretic technique used in forensics, and after an individual’s unique characteristics (genetic fingerprint) are established, the biostatistical procedure is used to determine the probability of paternity with an accuracy rate approaching 100%.
