Panoramic X-Ray (Chin Film)
As the name suggests, it is a wide-angle film in which all the teeth, jaw bones, right and left mandible joints, sinuses and nasal cavities can be seen. It is frequently used in dentistry for general diagnosis and control purposes. The advantages of viewing the general image with a single film are that it requires less radiation and time and is more economical than detecting the images of all teeth with Periapical films. The downside is that the detail image is not good.
Panoramic films are usually taken by Medical Doctors-Radiologists because they require a stronger and larger device.
With digital panoramic x-ray (dental x-ray), images of all teeth, lower, upper and jaw joints are taken. The shooting time is 10 seconds. Images are given in CD and film form. Investigations that can be performed with a panoramic x-ray device:
