It is important to be informed about the health status and hereditary diseases of the couples who will marry, and it is also a legal obligation. The fact that consanguineous marriages are high in Turkey and that 70% of consanguineous marriages are between first degree relatives are important in terms of preventing the birth of new sick individuals with premarital screening tests. It is also useful in terms of knowing sexually transmitted diseases (STD), which has been a serious threat in recent years, before marriage. Legally Mandatory Tests and Their Legal Justification Pursuant to Article 136 of the Turkish Civil Code, the couples specified in Articles 123 and 124 of the General Health Law No. 1593 are required to have the following tests done, showing that they do not have a disease preventing marriage.

They will be able to have their blood tests and Lung (PA Lung) Film done in laboratories licensed by the Ministry of Health, and they will have the test results made into a “Report” by their doctors at their authorized ASM / Family Health Centers, stating “there is no harm in getting married”. . They will also submit this report to the marriage officer.

Now pre-wedding thalassemia (Mediterranean anemia) tests are also requested. If the woman to be married is over 50 years old or after surgical menopause (submission of the surgery report), Mediterranean anemia screening is not required. These analyzes and examinations are legally required before marriage and marriage procedures are completed after examining them.

Blood Type Assay is performed to detect any blood incompatibility between parents and children. Blood incompatibility is related to the Rh factor in your blood, not the blood group.

Incompatibility can occur only if the woman is Rh negative and the man is Rh positive.

Knowing the existence of blood incompatibility prevents unpleasant situations that may arise by taking the necessary precautions before or at the beginning of pregnancy.
